British Pie Week – it’s one of our favourites! OK, it’s not quite Christmas (although we could get behind decorating a tree with mini pies), or Easter (again though, we’d definitely like a hunt around the garden for pies). But as a week to unite us all British Pie Week is a pretty good one we think. Most people love a pie, and with a multitude of delicious vegetarian, vegan and free from pies available, there’s now plenty of options for everyone. A number of our pies come from The Original Baker, a wonderful bakery in nearby Malton, where the deep-filled pies are handcrafted. Another shining example of the amazing local producers and suppliers we are lucky to have on our (North Yorkshire) doorstep. Our top seller remains constant as the good old Steak and Ale Pie. Little wonder with its all butter short crust pastry base and puff pastry lid, encasing prime British beef slowly cooked in Yorkshire beer with lightly caramelised white onions and fresh herbs for a rich and intense flavour. Feeling hungry yet?! But if you fancy something a bit different, your wish is our command. How about the Chicken & Leek Pie with succulent chunks of moist, tender British chicken with onions and leeks in a creamy, wholegrain mustard sauce. Or there’s Minced Beef & Onion Pie, with high quality minced beef with onions, cooked slowly until tender in rich beef gravy. Available in multiple sizes with an all-butter shortcrust pastry base and delectably light puff pastry lid. Don’t forget about the Slow Roast Pork and Ampleforth Abbey Cider pie, which was created specially for us in partnership with The Original Baker and the cider-making Benedictine Monks at Ampleforth Abbey. So, British Pie Week sounds like a great excuse for celebrations to us… pie hunt anyone? |
